U4GM Diablo 4 Why Locking Greater Affixes Matters

Man, the grind lately has been something else. I have been living in the pits and Helltides trying to find decent Diablo 4 Items with those elusive Greater Affixes. It is honestly soul-crushing when you finally get a 3GA piece only to have the Horadric Cube or the Occultist trash it in one click. I saw some folks on Reddit talking about a way to actually save those stats, and I will be real, I thought it was just another clickbait rumor. But after burning through some of my own stash to test it on a mace I was terrified to touch, it is legit. It is basically the only way to keep your sanity while min-maxing your build right now.

Why Greater Affixes are such a headache

Look, we all know GAs are like finding a needle in a haystack. You cannot just craft them or enchant them into existence. If you try to reroll an item at the Occultist, you are basically gambling with your life's work. The Cube is the worst offender because it is totally random when you hit that Chaotic Reroll button. It does not care if you have got a max-roll stat; it will just swap it for something trash like flat life or some resistance you do not even need. This little trick essentially messes with the game's internal logic so it thinks that specific stat is off-limits. It is a lifesaver for anyone who is tired of bricking their best gear before they even get to use it.

How to lock your stats before the patch

So here is the deal on how to actually do it. You take your gear to the Occultist and pick the specific Greater Affix you are desperate to keep safe. Hit reroll, but when the new options pop up, just pick the original roll again. Yeah, it costs some mats, but it flags that slot as Enchanted. For whatever reason, the Cube recipes see that enchanted slot as a locked variable right now. I tried a Focused Reroll a bunch of times on my weapon after doing this, and the GA did not move an inch. It just stayed put while the other junk stats shifted around it. It is a bit of a workaround, but it works every single time.

Stick to one lock for safety

Do not go overboard with this though. Most players are saying it only works reliably for one GA per item. I have heard some guys in my clan tried to lock two and ended up losing their second-best stat anyway. Just stick to your most important roll for now. Once that is locked down, you can use the Add Affix or Upgrade recipes with way more confidence. It turns that stressful gamble into something you can actually control. If you have got a 3GA rare you want to turn into a legendary base, this is the way to go. Just make sure you buy Diablo 4 materials if you are running low because you will need them for the reroll steps.
